Given the over all girth of the door it's self 2-1/4 would not be a bad call. Most exterior doors are 1-3/4 - 2. I use all 1-3/4 solid core doors in my remodels. Keeps the sound down quite a bit.

Yes, slightly thicker for front doors only. Big heavy monsters!

That would be fun to build. Let me know if you ever plan on putting that in a house that is being built. I will give ya a quote :)

Oh boy! You have a competitor here. A friend of mine is making 20 doors right now! I wonder what shipping would be?

depends on who we shipped it with. It would for sure be cheaper to have him to it given he is local. The cool thing is you access to woods that cost too much there. Is he making 20 of these doors? I could bid the project if you wanted. It would have a rough crating/shipping price. Let me know if you want me to. If you do let me know what wood you want it made from.

wow, this is really beautiful. I think the lamp might be my favorite part.

OHHHH that's not all that creative I'd say, I should try a really "out there" wrought iron lamp design...

Yes, totally oversize, how much would they weigh? A buddy of mine (expert carpenter) is actually making 20 doors from reclaimed cypress this week.

Oh, how cool is that!! I dabble in the woodshop, amongst other things, but I wouldn't call myself an expert by any means.. What i do make sure of is to take the time to do a quality job..

Oh there you are! I was just staring at it to see if I liked it. I think it's the best one yet. The inset panel would have a molding. You see it? I don't know if you can reproduce that detail though.

The molding would be 'tiny' at the chosen scale, but I'd give it a shot. I may be able to find to use for that.
How do you feel about making the inset panel and the corner triangles glass? You'd lose the molding piece in that case.

Maybe. You have to still subdivide the big diamond, a leaded glass pattern? Small diamond within big with center lines, vert and horiz.? I dunno. Make 2 or 3 doors!!!!!

If I end up fabricating them all I can use them in other places on the model.

It's a 3x8 door. Since we have high ceilings everywhere, 3x8 doors can work all over. Typically, exterior doors are thicker, esp. entry doors, maybe 2 and a quarter inches. Interior less...For model purposes maybe all the same thickness...

True that. At that scale it is a negligible difference. I'll make this version of the door, and then if there is time, make a second version with glass, then see how it looks.

We'll use the second one for the side entry.
