Designed and built by me for this home I designed: [link] (Home on the right.) The wood species is unusual for me, douglas fir, usually from Western U.S., nice grain, pinkish tone, strong, similar to southern yellow pine in many ways. Found some very nice 1x10 material at a local supplier. Small shelves were an afterthought, necessary because the kitchen cabinets were sized a bit too big, pushing the stemware rack out to the point where it had just a tiny bit too attach to at the wall (on the right) so I devised these little shelves as corner brackets to square it up and hold it steady. Top beam was supposed to have a shelf but it didn't enhance the project so I left it off. Measurement at top of "towers" is 9 feet, 11 feet to ceiling in great room on front. I used a darker stain to complement interior, and finished with Danish oil. "Get the corkscrew!!"
I like the little corner shelves. :3 They work nicely as both brackets and interesting aesthetic decor. Would be a cute place to hide a few tiny knick-knacks, too - "Surprise!"
