Neighborhood Model

Description

3D model graphic of an ideal neighborhood street composed of 12 of my 3D models "joined" together to form both sides of a block. Assumes a straight street and flat lots for simplicity. All houses are fully designed original designs of mine, designed over the last ten years or so, featuring two-story traditional architecture, alley-access rear garages, optional full basements, most homes with master suite and two bedrooms on second floor. Most of the models here have complete interiors with "accurate" dimensions, faithful to the plans.

Overhead "mild bird's eye view" shows angled view from, eh, maybe a couple hundred feet up?

Each individual house model can be built in Sketchup, saved, and later, joined together in any combination with the others. Always fun to horse around with! Things to watch out for are: keep your lot sizes, especially depth (front to rear) consistent, watch features like grass, (use consistent color/texture,) and keep in mind that these models get VERY complex when joined together, so, depending on the speed of your computer, the model will "refresh" slowly when you spin it around for various views.

Look elsewhere in my gallery for the various summary plans, pencil portraits, and other plan info for all of these houses, generally, the "300" series. Too many links to put here!

My first thought in seeing this was how many polygons are in this piece and how slow the refresh rate must be.

In AutoCAD I would convert each home into a block and keep the view in 2d until rendering, to expedite the work. Still, even with my mid range video card this takes a while.

Do you think SketchUp is faster at refreshing larger environments? The paper model look that is unique to SketchUp might be a factor in that. I can not say myself as I stick with Autodesk Revit and CAD
