Description
Tutorial/how-to shows how to use layers in an architectural 3D model. In this case, we have my design, House 333, shown from the side. Each "layer" can be made invisible to view something below it. (This is NOT the same as layers in Photoshop/Gimp!) So, for example, if the second floor layer is made invisible, then you can "look into" the first floor and see the interior. I typically divide the roof segments into many layers, which makes it easier to work on, and I can re-do a roof layer if I want to change one part of the roof, but not the whole thing.
Model also illustrates how to build an accurate model based on "real" floor plan dimensions. For example, the wall thickness is accurate for a 2x6 wood stud wall with brick exterior veneer. Interior view has enough detail to understand the construction, but NOT TOO MUCH. It's not necessary to make a super accurate 3D model with photo-like renderings of the interior, this is WAY too time-consuming, and the client will likely finish out the interior completely differently from whatever you think they should have! Just keep it simple and neutral, to explain the "main idea" and make it easy for a builder to understand how to build it.
